Technical Support
S.T.I. is an industry leader in the design and manufacture of easy open end production lines.
Paramount among the many reasons for our position is the Technical Support Service we are able
to provide to our customers. With hundreds of years of combined experience in all disciplines
of food packaging we are unique among equipment suppliers in our ability to provide this extensive
customer support. The following is a brief overview of these services and several of the ways
they contribute to our customers' success.
Design Engineering Support:
Our Design Engineering department combines a wealth of experience with state of the art Computer
Aided Design (CAD) equipment. In this way we produce designs that eliminate problems before they
can occur. We are able to design products which eliminate or minimize the most common cases for
downtime and lost production found in other production systems. As a result of this our customers
have already benefited before they have produced their first easy open end. With our vast talent
and experience pool we are able to provide engineered solutions for the unique problems that our
customers may experience in the normal course of manufacturing. This service is available to our
customers to address their needs at any time during the life cycle of our equipment, from
conception throughout the many years of profitable production it will yield. Additionally, we
can provide features such as complete production line layouts, material handling and storage
suggestions, along with a host of other recommendations related to plant operations.
Product Analysis and Development:
When special problems and/or needs occur we are expert at identifying the source and designing
solutions to them. We utilize our own in-house metallographic lab employing the most advanced
techniques and processes in investigating and analyzing our customers' problems. We can provide
failure analysis and destructive testing to evaluate and develop product standards which insure
our customers product quality. In addition, we can provide material analysis to investigate
chemical and physical properties of raw materials in an effort to resolve any unique problems
they may be experiencing or in developing performance standards they need to achieve.
Customer Training:
Prior to delivery of new equipment we conduct training of the customers' personnel at STI. They
will receive training on the operation, adjustment, and maintenance of the equipment as well as
the theory of operation to instill a sound basis for successful production in their own plant.
This training is carried out in the in-house training facility as well as the shop floor where
they will receive actual "hands on" training utilizing their own equipment. This type of training
can also be provided long after the delivery and installation of the equipment in the customer's
plant. We provide in-plant training seminars covering such topics as safety, operation,
maintenance, tool care, and quality control. In addition, we can provide training and instruction
on metallography, and failure analysis for those customers who are new to easy open end
manufacturing, or unaccustomed with these disciplines.
Installation and Start Up:
We can provide installation and start-up service for our equipment in varying degrees depending
on customer requirement. These services range from handling all wiring and supply connections
from the source to the machines and interconnections between the pieces of equipment; to merely
coming in and supervising the start-up of the machinery after the customer has done all the
preparatory work himself. We can also provide service to supervise the commissioning of the line
and bring it into a state of full production.
Production Start-Up Assistance:
After commissioning the line we also provide production start-up assistance. We provide an
engineer who will remain on site for an extended length of time to assist the customer through
the "learning curve" of production start-up. Our engineers are well versed in the operation of
the equipment, production techniques, quality control, etc. This can be of incalculable benefit
to those customers new to the manufacture of easy open ends assuring the shortest possible rise
to peak efficiency. Our engineer will advise and assist in all technical areas of manufacture
related to the efficient and profitable production of easy open ends.
Field Service:
Our field service staff provides in-plant service of the equipment we manufacture. We are ready
on an emergency basis if necessary to resolve problems, make adjustments, or provide instruction
which may be beyond the expertise of the customer to handle. In addition, we provide in-house
preventative maintenance programs and equipment servicing instruction. Our staff can be called
on to provide assistance for size changeover, product changeover, equipment repairs, and
equipment evaluations. Beyond these services we are available to provide help and service in
resolving product related problems and in achieving performance requirements.
In conjunction with all of the above, it bears mentioning that Service Tool is always available for
consultation by phone, fax, or mail for help with any problem on a no charge basis. Very often
problems can be resolved quickly by sending a description or example of the problem and implementing
the solution described, without the necessity of a service call. We routinely provide this type of
service using all the resources available in an effort to help customers identify the source and
provide a resolution for a variety of situations. This is available to all of our customers at any
time, even years after the sale. After all Service is at the forefront of our name.
